The 2024 Delta Murphy Lecture is presented by the USC Wrigley Institute for Environment & Sustainability. Named in memory of a USC alumna and former Whittier, CA, mayor, the Delta Murphy Lecture Series addresses socially connected issues in the worlds of environmental science and sustainability. During this event, we will discuss Ed Yong’s An Immense World for a deep dive into storytelling as a way to communicate, move minds and hearts, and inspire action on issues related to the environment and climate.

Named “the most impactful and important journalist” of 2020 by Poynter, Ed Yong is a staff science writer for The Atlantic. He was awarded journalism’s top honor, the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting, for his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic. His bestselling books include I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us, a groundbreaking examination of the relationship between animals and microbes, and An Immense World, a comprehensive look at the fascinating sensory world of animals.
