Postdoctoral Researcher: Environmental DNA and ocean monitoring

Full-time, 12-month position with benefits

Preferred start date: Fall 2023

Term: 1 year, with the expectation of renewal for 2 additional years based on performance and funding

Location: USC University Park Campus, Los Angeles, with field work in Costa Mesa, CA, and on Catalina Island

We are currently seeking applicants for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in our Center for Earth and Environmental Systems. The selected candidate will conduct research related to a funded project, “Identifying microbially-mediated marine eDNA decay rates to enhance ocean monitoring,” and work closely with a collaborative group of microbiologists, ecologists, and fisheries scientists from USC, the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), and the NOAA California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries (CalCOFI).

Dive Staff (Resource Employee)

Part-time (as-needed), not eligible for USC Benefits

Preferred Start Date: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and positions are filled as needed

Location: Wrigley Marine Science Center, Catalina Island

We are currently seeking Dive Staff positions to work with the USC Wrigley Institute research community to facilitate underwater research projects and assist with our Scientific Diving programs. The candidates may work closely with the Diving Safety Officer (DSO) to maintain dive program equipment and ensure that proper safety methods and procedures are followed.

Adjunct Professor of Sustainability Management (Open Rank)

Start date: January 2024

Term: Per semester

USC seeks adjunct professors to teach courses in our online Master of Science in Sustainability Management program. The successful candidate should possess a Ph.D., or equivalent professional degree, as well as relevant professional experience in the field of sustainability management (or a Master’s degree with extensive professional experience in the field). Preference will be given to candidates with significant prior online teaching experience combined with academic credentials, relevant professional experience in the field, and a history of receiving excellent teaching evaluations.

Marine Debris Postdoctoral Associate 

Full-time

Job Open Date: August 15, 2023

Job Close Date: Open until filled

Term: 1-3 years, renewable each year

Location: USC University Park Campus, Los Angeles

We are co-hosting a Postdoctoral Associate with the USC Sea Grant Program to join recently funded collaboration with the City of Santa Barbara titled “Clean Streets, Clean Seas,” which will innovate public works (street sweeping, catch basins) to intercept microplastics in coastal urban runoff. The Fellow will help lead research and policy development on marine microplastics, participate in program management, and develop extension work that connects program outcomes to public stakeholders.
