Award Opportunities

Gerald Bakus Graduate Fellowship

Established by his family, this award recognizes beloved faculty member Gerald “Jerry” Bakus, who was part of the USC community for 51 years.

Dr. Bakus was an expert on the ecology and chemistry of coral reefs, and an avid hiker and diver who conducted research projects across the globe. At home, he was a vital part of WMSC and had an encyclopedic knowledge of Catalina Island’s flora and fauna.

This $3,000 award supports USC graduate students pursuing an advanced degree in the Marine and Environmental Biology section of Dornsife College’s Department of Biological Sciences. Preference is given to students conducting terrestrial, marine, or sustainability research at WMSC or involving Catalina Island.

For more information or to apply for this award, contact Wrigley Institute Executive Director Dr. Jessica Dutton.

Susan and Philip Hagenah Postdoctoral Fellowship

Established through the generosity of Susan and Philip Hagenah, this fellowship supports highly qualified USC postdoctoral researchers who contribute meaningfully to the USC and scientific communities.

Fellows receive $6,000 to support advanced study in preparation for a full-time academic and/or research career.
